Protection of Archaeology

Ireland’s archaeological heritage is protected under the National Monuments Acts 1930 – 2004.

Prior to undertaking any works on or near sites of archaeological significance, consult for notification and consent procedures, from the National Monuments Section of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

The information brochure Archaeology in the Planning Process is also available from the National Monuments Section.

Policies relating to development and archaeology in Kilkenny are available to view in the Kilkenny County Development Plan 2014-2020.
