Kilkenny site chosen for Adopt a Monument Programme
The Heritage Council has chosen seven sites from across Ireland to take part in the Adopt a Monument Programme. A moat on the slopes of Brandon Hill in Ballyogan, Co. Kilkenny, the focus for the Tyndall Mountain Club, is one of the sites and will benefit from the expertise, mentoring and support offered under this programme. Good news for nesting birds
Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Ms. Joseph Madigan, TD has announced that there has been no change to the rules governing hedge-cutting.  It is illegal to cut hedgerows between 1st March and 31st August inclusive in order to protect nesting birds. However, where there is a road safety concern, roadside hedgerows may be cut in according to specifications in the Wildlife Acts, Roads Act and the articles of the Birds Directive. https://birdwatchireland.ie/good-news-for-nesting-birds-roadside-hedgerows-spared-heritage-act-cut/

The five daughters of William Marshall & Isabel de Clare
The Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle, will host a free pop up talk titled The five daughters of William Marshall & Isabel de Clare on Tuesday 6th August from 1.15 – 1.45pm. August Book & Coin Fair
The August Book & Coin Fair will take place on Monday 5th August from 10.30-5.30pm in the Clubhouse Hotel Kilkenny, with books across all sciences with an emphasis on local and Irish heritage, art, archaeology, architecture, historical geography and biography of notable persons from the area. Admission: €2 and donation will be made to the Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care team.
