Kilkenny County Council Heritage Office has a number of Heritage Week branded merchandise available for events registered on the Heritage Week Portal. Mass Paths and Holy Wells Workshop: 12:30-4:40pm, 21 August, Mayfair Library.
Are you interested in learning the skills of recording heritage features in your local community? This Heritage Week, join Marion Sutton and Pat Reid who will demonstrate how to record your local heritage using freely available on-line technology. This workshop invites members of the public to develop their heritage skills and also learn about the County Kilkenny Mass Path and Holy Wells surveys. We would love to hear all about your local holy wells and mass paths, so please join us for a chat and information sharing session. Kilkenny City Night Time Economy Diversification Grant (Call 2)
Following the success of Call 1 of the NTE Diversification Fund, Kilkenny County Council are launching a second call for events. The fund is now open for applications and the closing date is Friday 9th August at 5pm. Conservation Grants 2025
The Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025 for the repair and conservation of protected structures has been announced for the coming year. This announcement is approximately four months earlier than the traditional timeframe and, along with an increase in the value for individual grants awarded from €15,000 to €50,000, is one of several changes that have been made to the scheme for 2025 to try to make it more efficient both for applicants and those administering the scheme. All changes are highlighted in the BHIS 2025 Circular.
The closing date for submission of application to Conservation Office, Planning Department, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny is 4pm 27th September 2024.

Ireland’s First Witchcraft Trial – Irish History Podcast Hosted by Fin Dwyer
Step back to 1324 and listen to the chilling story of Ireland’s first Witchcraft Trial. In 1324, the Bishop of Ossory, Richard Ledrede, accused Alice Kyteler, a wealthy and influential woman, of witchcraft and heresy. Alongside Alice’s story, the podcast explores the tragic fate of Petronilla de Meath, the first person in Ireland to be executed for witchcraft. This project is an initiative of the Kilkenny Heritage Office and Library Service with funding from the Commemorations Unit of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Link below.

A New guide to help local history and heritage groups plan for the future | National Museum of Ireland
Local history and heritage groups in communities across Ireland are being invited to access a new guide to help secure the future of their volunteer organisation. The Guide looks at ways volunteer groups can address some of the challenges that can influence their future success. Common challenges include attracting new members, getting young people involved; keeping adequate records; or losing access to accounts due to lost passwords or IT crashes.

Farmland Biodiversity event in Birr Castle Demense on Wednesday 28 August 11 am – 3pm

Ancient Voices at Kells Priory
Liam O’Sullivan has launched this series of events at Kells Priory. The events are focused on ‘listening’ to our local history and allowing contemporary performers/artists/storytelling/poetry/music to interpret local history, traditions and culture. The next event on 31st August will feature Kevin Toolis from Achill who will poetically explore the death of his father, Sonny, within the ancestral embrace of the Irish wake.
