This year’s theme ‘Heritage at Risk’ encourages us to explore the built, natural and cultural aspects of our heritage that are endangered, for us to reimagine and revive these sites, artefacts and practices. 6 After 6 Summer Cultural Series – Heritage Events
The 6 After 6 Summer Cultural Series offers a unique opportunity to enjoy creative workshops and evening cultural experiences in Kilkenny within some of the city’s most historic and inspiring settings. This year a host of heritage themed events including medieval skills and crafts workshops at the Medieval Mile Museum; traditional music evenings and bi-lingual pottery workshops at Rothe House; evening garden tours at Butler House and evenings of music, song, dance and story in St Canice’s Cathedral.
Featuring 36 free and ticketed events from June to early September, the Six After 6 – Summer Cultural Series brings many of Kilkenny’s leading visitor attractions to life after hours, creating memorable evenings for both locals and visitors throughout the summer. Annual George Brown Commemoration in Inistioge
The 19th Annual George Brown Memorial Event will take place in Inistioge this Saturday, June 27. Inistioge native George Brown was killed in the Spanish Civil War almost 90 years ago. The event brings together historians, public representatives, musicians and members of the community to honour the memory of local man George Brown and reflect on the enduring lessons of the Spanish Civil War. The commemoration beings at 12pm in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Inistioge, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the George Brown Memorial Plaque in the adjoining graveyard. The programme will proceed then in Woodstock Gardens and wrap up with music in the Woodstock Arms. All welcome.
