Culture Night

The eighteenth edition of Culture Night will take place on Friday 22nd September 2023. Culture Night is a national moment celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of culture in Ireland today; connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally and opening up pathways to ongoing engagement. There are lots of events of events taking place throughout Kilkenny for all ages and interests to enjoy. Join the Heritage Council for a guided tour of the historic Heritage Council headquarters with a special performance by local actor Rosey Hayes. Step back in time and unearth the secrets of Medieval Mile graveyard tour. Explore the magnificent Victorian period rooms of Kilkenny Castle. SDG Week 2023 – 23rd September to 1st October

Ireland’s second Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) week kicks off this week (23rd September – 1st October), with over 100 events already registered! Libraries, local authorities, communities and organisations up and down the country, are hosting a range of fantastic events to attend. Events are already in full swing with many taking place this week to coincide with the wider European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) (18th September – 8th October). UCD launches Professional Academy Diploma in Business for Heritage and Cultural Site Managers

UCD are launching a new Professional Academy Diploma in Business for Heritage and Cultural Site Managers at UCD Professional Academy. This will be a live online (via Zoom) course, taking place part time in the evenings (6:30-9:30pm) over 12 weeks. You can view the course overview here. It aims to deliver the key skills to help Heritage and Culture organisations grow and develop their organisations. It covers Leadership and Management, Digital Marketing and Finance for non-Financial Managers. Learners will gain commercial skills to digitise and promote their organisation, along with the key business development and management accounting skills needed to deliver impact and growth.

 

NMS Archaeology Conference on Migration

The National Monuments Service (Ireland) 6th Annual Archaeology Conference taking place on Saturday 7th October. This is a one-day conference held at Dublin Castle and is open for in-person attendance and also available on-line. Wordwell | Archaeology Ireland is organising this conference on behalf of the National Monuments Service. This year the conference theme is about migration – in and out of Ireland. Entitled Imirce: migration and Ireland through time. This will look at the evidence for arrival in Ireland, alongside examples of Irish arrivals elsewhere, as a means of exploring and revealing the multiplicity of identities that have contributed—and continue to contribute—to Irish society through time. Royal Irish Academy’s Autumn Archaeology Grant Schemes

National Monuments Service are delighted to welcome applications for the Archaeology Research Excavation Grants, Archaeology Legacy Grants scheme, Archaeological Research for World Heritage sites Grants scheme and now also the Archaeological Archives Research Grants scheme. The new Archaeological Archives Research Grants scheme will support research and analysis connected to archival artefacts and other excavation-related material arising from non-RIA excavations of sites in Ireland (not including Northern Ireland). All schemes will close to applications on 12th October.
